John Dalton, Born Abt. 1840
« on: 05 January, 2009, 18:35 »
According to the 1870 Census of Laramie, Wyoming, my gggrandfather John Dalton was born in Canada.  The census lists him as being 30 years old.  Any help linking him to his birthplace and parents would be really appreciated.

I wonder if this is your John. I don't know anymore about him than what is on the chart below.
   JOHN DALTON, b. 05 Sep 1839.

Descendants of Patrick Dalton

Generation No. 1

1.  PATRICK1 DALTON was born 1806, and died 12 Nov 1890 in Lot 1, Tignish, PEI.  He married MARGARET MCCARTHY, daughter of JOHN MCCARTHY and JANE ROACH.  She was born Abt. 1801 in Kerry, Ireland, and died 14 Aug 1885 in Lot 1, Tignish, PEI.

Notes for PATRICK DALTON:
May 2, 1844 From The Palladium:
Names of the Subscribers to the Appeal Fund at Lot 7. (Communicated)
Martin Doyle, Armistown, Co. Wexford,
Mrs. Doyle, Halifax, Nova Scotia,
Patrick Calaghan, Halifax,
Maurice Halloran, Tralee, Co. Kerry,
Patrick Halloran, do.,
George Kelley, Queen's County,
---------- Lecky, Waterford,
John Dalton, Parish of Ballyhigh, Co. Kerry,
Patrick Dalton, do.,
James H. Fitzgerald, Cove of Cork,
and Charles McNeil, a Native, who paid one shilling and whose name was not previously inserted.

Children of PATRICK DALTON and MARGARET MCCARTHY are:
   i.   CATHERINE2 DALTON, b. Nov 1830, PEI; d. 1902, Kildare, PEI; m. LAWRENCE KINCH, 13 Jan 1852, St Simon St Jude, Tignish, PEI; b. Abt. 1830, PEI; d. 24 Sep 1868, Kildare  River, Lot 4, PEI.

Notes for CATHERINE DALTON:
b. date a/c 1901 CE.
Her Granddaughter, Catherine Mackie O'Connor used to tell of widow, Gammie Kinch as being poor but very proud, especially of her buffalo robe. When she would come to visit she would refuse to get out of her buggy and open the gate and of cpourse she it wouldn't be ladylike to shout. She would sit at the gate, she was "company" until someone noticed her and opened the gate.
Her date of birth is a/c the 1901 census of Lot 3.

Notes for LAWRENCE KINCH:
I was told by Marie Wade Wilkie [d.2002] Quincy MA] that he ran a ferry for crossing the Kildar River at his farm and that he drowned on the river. Then his widow didn't want to stay there so she exchanged the farm with a Mr Gillian from central Kildare. Lease records show that Lawrence Kinch had the property on the Kildare River that was later that of Mr Gillian. The Kildare Bridge was later built there. Tom O'Connor

We don't really know the story either. We were told it was a daughter of Mr. Kinch;s who drowned in the river , and they didn't want to live there any more, but have never gone any further in researching this out. Arlene
