In a book by Tim Berra about Charles Darwin, the author states that Darwin had a contemporary, an imminent scientist, Joseph Dalton Hooker. Hooker was the Director of the Royal Botanic Garden, Kew and Darwin's closest friend. Hooker was also a fellow of the Royal Society, and his photo is in the British Museum.
Does anyone know how he comes by "Dalton" as his middle name? Thanks, archie.
