Chevalier George Edward Robert Dalton
« on: 05 June, 2011, 20:47 »
I have a query about George Edward Robert Dalton, probably born in Boyle Rosammere or Athlone in 1856 and died in Portsmouth 4 January 1927. He was a retired master mariner in 1911. He was executor for Reverend George William Dalton, so possibly his son. GWD was possibly born in Malta between 1822 and 1824. He was a clergyman in Ireland and England, probably educated in Dublin.

I think that GERD was the son of GWD and his first wife Mary Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Captain Robert Smith, pursuivant-at-arms of Athlone after serving in the 44thRegiment. RS was also an artist, and his son was Robert Henry Soden Smith an art curator.

GERD was described as a Chevalier in his death notice in the London Times. There are some references to a Chevalier (the Captain) Dalton google related art.

I am not directly related to this family, but have an interest through a couple of marriages and the Napoleonic military history.

Any information would be much appreciated.
