General Information / Re: Daltons in India
« Last post by susanadams on 30 May, 2012, 06:42 »
Dear Angus

I have just joined the Dalton forum website and could not believe it when I saw your posting.  My grandmother Florence Dalton was born in India and her father was Thomas Lawrence Dalton.  She had 2 sisters and 1 brother by him but he was not married to their mother. He later married a Hilda Caroline Pickering and had 5 legitable children by her.  One of Thomas and Hilda's sons was Fredrick James Dalton born 1909 and I believe he had boys by the names of Ralph born 1935 and Thomas born 1933.  They travelled back to England with their aunt, Fredricks sister Lily Marguerita Dalton on 4th January 1908.

I would love to hear from you or anyone else who knows about Thomas Lawrence Dalton who originated from South Wales Daltons (Thomas Masters Dalton was his father) and led a very colourful life in India.
Please contact me as we are definitely related!!

Greetings, all. I'm new to this site and confused where I can find my "clan." I've spent a lot of time on Ancestry.com and am looking to connect with my relatives. I'm related to Roxie Jane Dalton and David F. Sayers. Roxie was the daughter of Ellis Dalton and Lucy Mabry. Any help would be appreciated!

General Information / Matthew Aylmer D'alton
« Last post by hutton1964 on 15 April, 2012, 13:14 »
Hi All,

I am trying to find out information regarding my ggg grandfather Matthew Aylmer D'alton. I am not sure when or where he was born but believe he married a Maria Lyster on 14th May 1819 at Cloghran Swords Dublin.

Matthew and Maria had at least one son William D'alton. I am not sure of William's date of birth but he married Frances Isabella Ogrady on 14 April 1853 at Malahide Dublin. There may have been more children I have seen a birth of an Edmond born abt. 1821.

Not sure but think his religion was most likely to be C of I. I think he may have had some military connections as there is a Lieutenant Matthew Aylmer Dalton of the Sicilian Regiment listed in the Hart's annual army list from 1812-1816.

Thank you for any information you can offer.

Kind regards

Sandra

Ancestors in the US / Re: Eber Dolton/Dalton
« Last post by sjs867 on 15 April, 2012, 00:59 »
Hi. I have a bit of an update on this Dalton/Dolton mystery. A family member has told me that William Calvin Dalton did not die around 1900 as I had gathered from earlier family tales. This new person says that William left Notie and Eber and went back to his home state of Kentucky. Then he went to Arkansas and married Mary Etta Riner. Mary Etta's daughter from a previous relationship, Ruby, took the Dalton name and they had three more children. William, who died at a few months of age, and two daughters,Oma and Louise.  I found William and Mary Etta on the 1940 census living with Louise and her daughter, Dorothy, in Duncan near Holly Grove,Arkansas.Louise's married name is Johnson on this census. If this new info sounds familiar to anyone, I would appreciate the help. Thanks, Suzanne

Ancestors in New Zealand / Anastatia DALTON & Martin Stapleton
« Last post by ellenstapleton on 13 April, 2012, 01:04 »
Anastatia & Martin were married in St. Canices church, Kilkenny 11 February 1839. Their first born child THOMAS baptised same place 13 November 1839, recidence is CHAPELL HILL. Anastatia & Martin emigrated to Port Jackson, NSW, Australia in June 1840 and arrived aboard the ISABELLA 18 October 1840. Within 5 weeks Thomas had died, and was buried in Sydney, address Pitt St....before August 1841 the couple arrived in Auckland, New Zealand, as we know that they each gave 1 pound to build the very first catholic church in Auckland.
Anastatias parents were Richard DALTON & Margaret HICKEY, her known siblings were James b 1803, John 1806, William 1809 & Michael 1816...Anastatia ca 1820.All Keatingstown or Chapell Hill.
Should anyone have info regarding the above family either in Kilkenny or New Zealand please respond. I'm extremely interested in the family before they emigrate.
Richard DALTON lived in Grange Road, St Canice Parish in 1849, but is likely to have died before 1850.

Hi I'm looking for relatives of:
Moses Dalton  1792-1863 married to Mary Ann Dalton (maiden name Briffit) 1802-1867. Moses is my Great, great, great grandad.
I also know that the gene for colour blindness also runs in our family.
I can't find records to go any further back to find out the details relating to Moses's parents.
There are family links to London and Exeter.

I'm also trying to find my dad's cousin Brenda her mum was Blanche Dalton (DOB 1899) daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Dalton. Since my dad died Ive found letters to Brenda written during WW2. I know Brenda was a teacher and I found an old address for Bramhall Stockport but she has since moved o

Kind Regards

Trying to find what happened to, and/or family connections to Ellen Dalton, who arrived in Auckland on the Cashmere, 9 May 1853. (That date is also given on this websites passenger list for NZ).
It is quite likely she was associated with the C.M.S. (Church Missionary Society), possibly as a school assistant.
Looking for her connections to the Williams family whom she seems to be traveling with on the same vessel.  There is a possibility her first initial may have been an 'H'.  Misses Eliza Jones and Mary Tomes were closely associated during the voyage.
Coldham, Morgan or Nelson could be other family surnames connected.
Thank you. G.W.

General Information / more on the D'Altons of Golden Hills
« Last post by Lynn DAlton on 29 March, 2012, 20:34 »
Hi my name is Lynn and my husband John has ancestors who came from Golden Hills, Tipperary Cty.  In fact, his great aunt Aida and siblings were born at the "castle".  I was interested to learn that members were looking for information about Golden Hills and the cemetery where many D'Altons are buried.  We have pictures of the original home and transcripts of some of the gravestones written down by Florence(Aida) D'Alton who was born at Golden Hills in 1873.  Contrary to what I have seen on some of the article about Golden Hills, the D'Altons were still living there later than 1873.   Notice too the spelling of the name with the apostrophe.  Apparently some of the siblings dropped the apostrophe -see Charles Dalton but Aida insisted that it was part of the family heritage.Aida's father was John Edward D'Alton of whom we have a photograph.  We have a silhouette of him with his father, Edward D'Alton. The photos are all identified with the spelling of D'Alton.  Aida lived until 1973 - a grand old lady of 100 whom my husband visited when a young man.  We have letters and family stories written by Aida including her time during World War 1 when she was nursing and her years before the war when she was visiting some princesses of Europe.

John's grandfather emigrated to South Africa and his father emigrated to Canada in 1929 where we currently live.

I would be especially interested to hear from any of the family who are living in England.  My husband met some of the relatives when young but has lost touch.
