« Last post by David Preston on 03 February, 2017, 07:57 »
For 2017, the DGS Annual Gathering is being held in Hull and the suggested hotel is the Premier Inn City Centre, conveniently situated for the Old Town.
The Dalton Genealogical Society extends an invitation to all DGS members and their families to attend the 2017 Gathering of the Society in Hull from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd September.  All will be welcome, and the theme of the Gathering will be Dalton history and to celebrate Hull as the City of Culture 2017.
The event will include the opportunity to visit a number of interesting places in and around Hull with Dalton connections but also to embrace and enjoy the activities that are planned for the city.  The DGS Annual Dinner will take place in a slightly different kind of venue than normal, at The Deep aquarium, where we will dine with all of the permanent residents.

DGS Meetings / 2016 Gathering in Manchester, UK
« Last post by David Preston on 18 June, 2016, 11:50 »
Each year, the Society arranges a major Gathering event for members. For 2016, the DGS Gathering and Annual General Meeting will take place Friday September 16th & Saturday September 17th, 2016 in Manchester, UK.

This year is the 250th anniversary of the birth of John Dalton, FRS (Fellow Royal Society), the celebrated scientist who is remembered for introducing Atomic Theory. Manchester was chosen to mark John Dalton's contributions to science, as he spent most of his working life in Manchester.

Special arrangements have been made with the Manchester Museum of Science & Technology for attendees to view some of John Dalton's possessions and equipment. Visits to historic libraries in Manchester are also planned. Since some of the libraries are only open on week days, library and museum visits are planned for Friday, and the AGM is scheduled for Saturday September 17th.

Local accommodations are being investigated now, but those planning to attend may wish to consider making their own hotel arrangements. It would be very helpful to know how may members are planning to attend. Kindly contact the Journal editor, John Dalton by email johndalton78@hotmail.com if you are thinking of attending.

More information will be provided here: http://www.daltongenealogicalsociety.org/events/index.html  as it becomes available

Ancestors in Ireland / Miles Dalton from Wexford ?
« Last post by nelliesgirl on 30 April, 2016, 02:06 »
My Gt x 3 ancestor served with the 5th Dragoon Guards, signing on in Wexford. My 1st official record of him is his daughter Alicias baptism at Mitcham, Surrey England in 1811 where he was quartered, he died later that year at Colchester barracks/hospital. His wife Catherine died a few years later so both children were sent to the Royal Military Asylum, Chelsea.

My Gt x 2 grandfather Edward and his sister Alicia both died in their 30's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

This was a user submitted piece and Linda has now been in touch, has anyone any connections to this Patrick Dalton?

From Data Bank reader Linda Magee:
Annie Brady married Patrick Dalton in about 1895 in Dublin.
Patrick was born around 1873 and died 30/12/1899 of TB (have death cert). They had three daughters:
Mary (1896 - 1904),
Margaret (1898 - ?), and
Anne (1900 - ?).
My Grandmother was Annie Brady's daughter from her subsequent second marriage.

Ancestors in the UK / Re: Frances Isabel Dalton
« Last post by drathgen on 20 March, 2015, 21:43 »
Frances Dalton and Joshua Hirst had a son c1830-1838 named William Hirst. William migrated to Victoria, Australia c1851 where he married Elizabeth Benson in 1867. In 1867 on his marriage certificate, William said he was born at WARDELL - a non-existing place in Northumberland. His father, Joshua Hirst was an architect. Some correspondents (from Rootschat) suggested the place was WARDEN - but searches there say not so. Now I have asked at Wardley, Northumberland; and await a reply.
Perhaps you might have a Frances Dalton from Northumberland in your tree? or even a Joshua Hirst, architect of Northumberland?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

General Information / Marcus Lafayette Dalton of Texas
« Last post by lmurphy01 on 05 January, 2015, 15:56 »
Hello,
I am looking for any information on the parents of Marcus Lafayette Dalton.  Marcus Lafayette Dalton, his brother George Washington Dalton and other brother Robert came to Texas around 1835 or so through Fannin County.  Marcus was born in 1819.  He arrived from Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  There has been some speculation that his father was Captain John Dalton who fought in the War of 1812.
Marcus died In Texas at age 50, and was married to Lucinda Gamble Dalton.  While there is copious information on his life in Texas (the first Chief Justice of Palo Pinto county, his ranch and his death (being one of the last to be killed by Native Americans), Marcus's early life is a mystery.
Thank you!  Please email me here, or at
