I am the great-grandson of James Lewis Dalton, the founder of the Dalton Adding Machine Co. in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, later of Cincinnati, OH.

A couple of years ago, I tried to contact someone at the DGS to get more information/pass on MY information and heard nothing back.

I would like to make contact and complete this side of my family history, if at all possible.

Thank you,

Chris Dalton

Ancestors in Ireland / MICHAEL DALTON'S WILL
« Last post by Johnyo25 on 02 March, 2014, 09:23 »
Hi all

I'm new here having just established the connection. In Michael Dalton's will transcription you have a query against daughter Alice Wright? in the transcription. It is in fact Alice Wrixon. She married John Wrixon 20 April 1779 at Brinny St John, County Cork, and is my 4x great grandmother. You may have already sorted this out since 2000, but I couldn't face ploughing through all the issues of DGS for the last 14 years!

Hope this helps

John

Ancestors in Ireland / John Dalton married Bridget (Babe) Madigan
« Last post by grrl on 18 January, 2014, 21:44 »
I have a John Dalton who married my 1st cousin twice removed who is Bridget (Babe) Madigan. They married in 1909 in Ireland. Bridget died in 1981 and they had nine children. At this stage only have the names of three of them. They are Hanora Dalton, Tim Dalton born 1916, died 1943 and Paddy Dalton born 1922 who married Maura in 1957. Paddy and Maura i believe are still living in Ballyhahill. If anyone can expand on this family i would really appreciate it. Many thanks from New Zealand

Ancestors in Australia / Dalton Tugs in Newcastle Australia

I am researching the Tiernan family and I know that Joseph Tiernan, my great grand father, worked as a tug captain for John Dalton on Newcastle harbour in approx 1870-84.  I am wondering if anyone has come across Joseph whilst looking at the Dalton family.  Joseph was listed as a master mariner when he died. I am particularly interested in any info to do wth Joseph's employment with John Daltons Tugs  Thank you henry

Ancestors in the UK / James Dalton, Fustian Cutter, Manchester c.1780-1830
« Last post by edrowbot on 17 December, 2013, 10:40 »
My GG Grandfather John Dalton was born in 1802 (possibly in Ireland, possibly Manchester) and was married at Manchester Old Church (Cathedral) in 1824 to Maria Collier.  He lived most of his life in Manchester and brought his family up in Collyhurst, Ardwick, and Newton Heath.  He worked first as a fustian cutter, then as a commercial traveller for a fustian warehouse.  He had six children by Maria, all of whom survived into adulthood and married.  John married a second time to Elizabeth Jeffs, (a widow) in 1871, when he gave his father’s name as James Dalton – a fustian cutter.

I’m hoping to trace more information about this James Dalton.  There are possible sightings of a Jas Dalton, in the Trade Directories of 1821 (a fustian cutter at Waller’s Buildings in Ancoats) and 1824 (a warehouseman at Kennedy St) but I don’t know if they’re the right James Dalton.  My guess is that James would have been born around 1770 to 1780 and married around the turn of the century.  The Lancashire Parish records suggest only two marriages with a James Dalton in this period, one at St Mary's Oldham in 1792 and the other at Prestwich in 1798, but again I don't know if either is James Dalton is my GGG Grandfather.

I’d like to know if anyone shares this James Dalton as an ancestor and has any information about whether there were other children of this family apart from my GG Grandfather John.
